North Port families heading into the 2026-27 school year will have a brand-new option: a 139,500-square-foot K-12 campus on East Price Boulevard that consolidates Imagine School at North Port's previously separate upper and lower schools under one roof for the first time since the charter school opened in 2008.
Capacity nearly triples to 1,500 students
The facility at 1998 E. Price Blvd. sits on roughly 20 acres at Glenbrooke Boulevard and can accommodate up to 1,500 students. That's a significant jump from the school's enrollment of approximately 1,177 students across its old Toledo Blade Boulevard campuses, about 2 miles away. The campus cost approximately $50 million, according to Englewood Review reporting on the October groundbreaking.
As of July 11, the building's exterior was complete. An "Imagine Schools North Port" sign faced the parking lot, the school crest was visible from East Price Boulevard, and football goalposts were in place, according to the North Port Sun. Road crews were still working on adjacent streets.
Classes are scheduled to begin Aug. 10.
Two gyms, two cafeterias and a turf field
The U-shaped campus splits into a two-story elementary wing for grades K-5 and a three-story wing for grades 6-12, connected by gymnasiums and administration buildings. Amenities include two gyms, two cafeterias, an athletic field with artificial turf and a track, an elementary playground, and a vehicle stacking loop for drop-off and pickup.
Ribbon cutting set for September, enrollment open now
A ribbon-cutting celebration is scheduled from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Sept. 25. School leadership has invited community leaders, families, staff and supporters to RSVP.
Open enrollment is underway. Families can apply through the Imagine Schools website or call 941-426-2050.
From 2025 groundbreaking to a state A rating
Imagine School at North Port broke ground in October 2025 after receiving city development approval earlier that year. At the groundbreaking ceremony, Upper Campus Principal John Halcomb reflected on the school's growth since 2008.
"This is the future," Imagine Governing Board President Mark Pedro told the crowd. "We're on a tight schedule and can't wait to open."
The school is one of Sarasota County's 14 charter schools. Charter enrollment countywide stood at about 16% of public school students as of October, according to MySuncoast. Imagine School at North Port holds a state A rating and offers dual enrollment through State College of Florida and career and technical education programs.
Imagine Schools, the nonprofit network behind the campus, operates 54 charter campuses nationwide serving around 32,000 students.
