Three candidates vying for two at-large seats on the Sarasota City Commission will appear at a public forum Wednesday, Oct. 7.

The League of Women Voters of Sarasota County and Suncoast Searchlight are co-hosting the event, which runs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. Jen Ahearn-Koch, Florence Entler and John Harshman have all been invited to participate, according to the league's events page.

Voters will choose two of the three candidates on Election Day, Nov. 3.

How to watch the Sarasota commission forum

Vilia Johnson, the league's co-president, and Emily Le Coz, Suncoast Searchlight's executive editor in chief, will moderate. The forum will be livestreamed on the league's YouTube channel and recorded for later viewing at lwvsrq.org. No registration is required.

More forums planned for Sarasota County races

The Oct. 7 forum is the first of at least three confirmed forums the league and Suncoast Searchlight have scheduled for Sarasota County races this fall. A North Port City Commission District 4 forum is set for Oct. 15, and a Venice City Commission forum covering seats 2 and 5 is scheduled for Oct. 21. Additional forums may be added if at least two candidates in each race agree to participate, the Englewood Sun reported.

The voter registration deadline for the Nov. 3 general election is Monday, Oct. 5. Early voting runs Oct. 19 through Nov. 1. The deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot is 5 p.m. Oct. 22.
