Aircraft Services Group opened a 30,000-square-foot hangar and Sarasota headquarters Thursday, Oct. 1, at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, expanding the private aviation company's presence at SRQ.

The company marked the opening with an afternoon event at the new facility on Warhawk Place in the airport's north quadrant. The open house ran from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., with a formal program and ribbon-cutting during the event, WWSB reported.

Guests toured private jets, and the event included food trucks and live music.

"We are excited for the expansion of our community and the expansion of our company," Aircraft Services Group President Andrew Reenstra told WWSB.

New facility serves growing private aviation business

The facility includes a 30,000-square-foot hangar and an additional 5,000 square feet containing a private lounge, kitchen and offices. It also includes a 20,000-gallon fuel farm.

Aircraft Services Group said the Sarasota operation will serve as a hub for its expanding business. Jobs associated with the facility include ground operations, pilots, charter sales and maintenance, although the company has not announced a specific number of positions.

Company founder George Reenstra, President Andrew Reenstra and CEO Peter Cuomo attended the opening.

Aircraft Services Group is based in New Jersey and lists Teterboro, Westchester County, Sarasota and Farmingdale as its four main bases.

The Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority approved a development and operating agreement with Aircraft Services Hangar Group Inc. on Jan. 29, 2024, covering about 5 acres of undeveloped land in the airport's north quadrant.

The agreement authorized aircraft sales, aircraft management, on-demand charter operations and limited aircraft self-fueling.

Second hangar could follow

The airport agreement divided the development between two adjoining parcels.

Under the original plans, the first phase required at least 30,000 square feet of hangar space, a 30,000-square-foot aircraft apron, at least 3,000 square feet of administrative space and 10,000 gallons of fuel storage, according to a November 2025 Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority board narrative.

Plans for the adjoining parcel call for another 30,000-square-foot hangar and aircraft apron.

Andrew Reenstra told WWSB at Thursday's opening that the company hopes to continue expanding and could build a second hangar on the adjacent property.

An earlier amendment to the airport agreement accelerated construction of the second parcel's aircraft apron, added a taxiway connector to Taxiway H and expanded the airport authority's ability to reclaim the parcel if required improvements were not completed within 36 months after substantial completion of the first parcel.

The airport authority unanimously approved a second amendment Feb. 9, 2026, extending the commencement date for the first parcel to no later than May 31 while airport and Florida Power & Light contractors completed electrical infrastructure needed to serve the property.

Private aviation investment grows at SRQ

The opening came amid broader private aviation investment at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport.

Sheltair, selected as the airport's third fixed base operator, broke ground on a separate private aviation complex in the north quadrant on April 30, 2024.

That development occupies 24 acres and represents more than $40 million in infrastructure investment. Plans included a 10,705-square-foot terminal, two aircraft storage hangars and additional aviation facilities.

SRQ also continued to experience record passenger growth. The airport handled 4,514,781 passengers in 2025, up 6.34% from 4,245,686 in 2024, according to an airport press release.

"Surpassing 4.5 million passengers in 2025 is an important milestone and reflects strong demand for affordable and reliable air service," airport President and CEO Paul Hoback Jr. said when the annual figures were released.

The airport served 11 airlines flying to 69 destinations as of March, according to a Your Observer report.
