A campus built for up to 1,500 students opens Monday, Aug. 10, when Imagine School at North Port moves into its new $50 million building on East Price Boulevard, consolidating the charter school's upper and lower campuses under one roof for the first time since it launched in 2008.

The 139,500-square-foot facility at 1998 E. Price Blvd. sits on a 20-acre parcel that was previously undeveloped land. The school purchased the property for $2.1 million in August 2025, with the sale brokered by SVN Commercial Advisory Group, and land clearing began shortly after, according to the Business Observer. The new campus nearly triples the school's capacity. Until now, roughly 1,177 students were split between two locations on Toledo Blade Boulevard about 2 miles away, as we reported in July.

"This is the future," Imagine Governing Board President Mark Pedro told the crowd at the school's October 2025 groundbreaking ceremony. "We're on a tight schedule and can't wait to open."

The U-shaped campus features a two-story elementary wing for grades K-5 and a three-story wing for grades 6-12, connected by gymnasiums and administration buildings. Amenities include two gyms, two cafeterias, an artificial turf athletic field with a running track, an elementary playground and a vehicle stacking loop for drop-off and pickup.

As of July 11, the building's exterior was complete. An "Imagine Schools North Port" sign faced the parking lot, the school crest was visible from East Price Boulevard and football goalposts stood on the field, according to the Englewood Review. Road crews were still working on adjacent streets at that time.

Imagine School at North Port holds a state "A" rating and offers dual enrollment through State College of Florida along with career and technical education programs. The school is one of 14 charter schools in Sarasota County, where charter enrollment accounts for about 16% of public school students.

The school broke ground in October 2025 after receiving city development approval earlier that year. Upper Campus Principal John Halcomb reflected on the school's growth since 2008 at the groundbreaking ceremony.

Imagine Schools, the nonprofit network behind the campus, operates 54 charter schools nationwide serving around 32,000 students.

The Aug. 10 opening coincides with the first day of classes across Sarasota County. While Wellen Park High School has drawn attention as the county's first new high school in 25 years, Imagine School's new campus represents a separate, significant expansion of school options in North Port.

A ribbon-cutting celebration is scheduled from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Sept. 25. Enrollment remains open. Families can apply through the Imagine Schools website at imagineschoolatnorthport.com or call 941-426-2050.
