Riverview High beat Manatee 49-47 on Friday, Sept. 18, in a game that wasn't decided until the final half-minute.

Receiver Deionne Holloway hauled in a 22-yard touchdown pass from Manatee quarterback Nolan Downes with 26.5 seconds remaining, pulling the Hurricanes within two points. Manatee needed a 2-point conversion to force a fifth tie. The Hurricanes couldn't convert, and Riverview held on, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

The win improved Riverview to 4-1. Manatee fell to 3-2. Both teams had entered the game at 3-1.

Rams ground game powers the offense

Justin Flores and Michael Peterson each scored three touchdowns for Riverview. The pair combined for more than 250 rushing yards, according to the Herald-Tribune's top performers roundup. Senior quarterback Logan Carrillo added a passing touchdown, completing 9 of 14 passes for more than 150 yards.

Carrillo entered the week ranked No. 10 in Florida with 1,103 passing yards this season, according to MaxPreps.

Manatee's White shines despite the loss

Manatee junior Caedon White carried the ball at least 34 times, rushing for more than 260 yards and three touchdowns. White ranked No. 8 in Florida in rushing yards entering the week, with 683 yards this season, according to MaxPreps.

Sophomore quarterback Downes, who ranked No. 21 in the state with 951 passing yards, connected with Holloway on the late touchdown that nearly forced overtime.

Other Week 5 results from the area, according to the Herald-Tribune: Sarasota beat Parrish Community 48-7 to improve to 4-1. Braden River stayed unbeaten at 4-0 with a 37-6 win over North Port. Out-of-Door Academy improved to 5-0 by beating Sarasota Christian 50-21. Palmetto topped Naples 38-28, and Venice routed Cape Coral 63-21.

Riverview hosts Lehigh at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25. Manatee travels to Sumner the same night, also at 7:30 p.m.
