Lucile Pizza & Wine Bar will close under that name Saturday, Sept. 12, before a remodel transforms the 1660 Main St. space into something new.

The downtown Sarasota restaurant announced the change on social media, saying it is going back to its roots with a new name, new menu and a new chapter. The owners have not disclosed the new name, new menu or reopening date.

City permit hints at what's coming next

A city of Sarasota building permit offers a few clues. The permit calls for alterations to the 743-square-foot restaurant with no change in use. Baldwin Construction and Design is listed as the contractor, and Stephen Chung is the architect, Sarasota Magazine reported Thursday, Sept. 10.

Baldwin and co-owner Ryan Boeve go back years. Mark Baldwin of Baldwin Construction was Boeve's original partner when Lucile opened in December 2020. The two had previously worked together on Lila, another Main Street restaurant where Boeve developed his vegetable-forward cooking style.

Restaurant named for the owner's grandmother

Boeve named the pizzeria after his maternal grandmother, who encouraged him to cook imaginative dishes from a young age. The intimate space, built inside a former hair salon, features a blue-tiled oven as its centerpiece. When the restaurant launched, Boeve told the Herald-Tribune in October 2020 that he wanted to make everything from scratch and focus mostly on healthy, plant-based dishes.

That approach earned a loyal following. Sarasota Magazine included Lucile in its 2026 guide to the area's best pizza. The restaurant's current summer menu features housemade pastas, small plates like grilled zucchini with almond-based feta, and pizzas built on dough cold-fermented for at least 48 hours.

New name won't include the word "pizza"

A Facebook post from the Sarasota Restaurants page noted that, according to a State of Florida filing, the new name will not include the word "pizza."

No reopening timeline has been announced for the remodeled space at 1660 Main St.
