Eleven student-created digital animations will light up the Palm Avenue Parking Garage on Friday, Nov. 6. Ringling College of Art and Design and the city's Public Art Program are transforming the building's "sails" façade into a giant outdoor screen for one night only.

The free projection art show runs 7 to 10 p.m. at 1289 N. Palm Ave. as part of the Fresh Fridays "Beyond the Canvas" event, according to the city. It is the second year for the projection mapping installation, which debuted on the garage in 2025.

Students in Ringling College's Department of Motion Design created the 11 original works under Professor Dante Rinaldi. The animations draw inspiration from Sarasota's public art collection and reimagine familiar pieces through digital storytelling, according to the city's event page.

LightMural, a locally owned projection mapping company, is producing the installation. The company was founded by Ed Cheetham and Kelly Warner. Cheetham retired as head of Ringling College's motion design department, and Warner is a current faculty member there, Your Observer reported in July. LightMural also produced the city's "Light Up the Sky Interactive America 250 Art Experience" earlier this year.

The event is free and open to all. It takes place on Palm Avenue between Main Street and Cocoanut Avenue.

Upcoming community events: Fresh Fridays "Beyond the Canvas" takes place Nov. 6 from 7 to 10 p.m. on Palm Avenue in downtown Sarasota. Admission is free.
