Two Riverview High students have built a sports card business that's already moved more than 1,300 items online and is now directing proceeds to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties.

Braydon LaRusso, a rising senior, and his sister Emma, a rising freshman, co-founded Cards2Tuff with a simple model: buy undervalued cards on eBay and Whatnot, then auction them in live streams for a profit. Braydon scouts the deals. Emma runs the camera and creates promotional content.

As of Tuesday, July 28, Cards2Tuff held a 4.9-star rating across 208 reviews on Whatnot, with 1,800 followers on that platform and 4,600 YouTube subscribers, according to the Your Observer. Their biggest flip: a Kobe Bryant "case hit" card, found in roughly 1 of every 10,000 packs, which sold for $320.

Now the siblings are channeling that momentum into fundraising. A July 24 livestream directed $50 of its proceeds to the Boys & Girls Clubs, and two more charity shows are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7, and Friday, Aug. 21, both starting at 5 p.m. on Whatnot, according to MySuncoast. The LaRussos said they hope to raise between $100 and $250 total across the three events.

"We both have a love for sports. That's what we enjoy doing. We created this business with hopes that we can continuously give back," said Braydon.

Both siblings are International Baccalaureate students who also volunteer at HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital, Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and Teen Court of Sarasota. Their father, James LaRusso, told the Your Observer the charity angle was no surprise given his kids' track record of community work.

The card market demands constant attention. Emma noted that a single injury can tank a player's card value overnight, making sourcing a daily grind even during the school year. The biggest challenge, Braydon said, has been meeting buyers' professional expectations while balancing homework and extracurriculars.

Cards2Tuff's longer-term vision includes dedicated weekly charity shows for different organizations and partnerships with local businesses to give away gift cards to kids.
