Sarasota-area football teams dominated Thursday, Sept. 10, in Week 4, posting four lopsided victories with a combined score of 238-23.
Cardinal Mooney delivered the headline performance, handing Wellen Park its first loss in program history with a 67-10 rout at home, according to WWSB. The Eagles had entered the game 3-0 in their inaugural season.
Seneca Hawthorne set the tone early, returning the opening kickoff the length of the field for a touchdown after Wellen Park had taken a 3-0 lead on a Donovan Childers field goal. Cardinal Mooney never looked back. Quarterback Davin Davidson scored a rushing touchdown up the middle to push the lead to 25-3 in the second quarter, and senior running back Connail Jackson added multiple rushing scores.
The Cougars led 46-3 at halftime.
Jackson, who scored five touchdowns in Cardinal Mooney's Week 3 win over True North Classical Academy on Sept. 4, continued his tear through the schedule. The Cougars improved to 3-1.
Sarasota rolls past North Port
Sarasota cruised past North Port 56-13 at home, improving to 3-1 on the season. The Sailors had blanked Hudson 42-0 on Sept. 4.
Riverview opens district play with a shutout
Riverview opened district play with a 46-0 shutout of Lakewood Ranch. The Rams bounced back after a 34-28 loss to Palmetto on Sept. 4, which dropped them to 2-1. Senior quarterback Logan Carrillo entered the game with 11 touchdown passes through three weeks, according to MaxPreps.
Venice remains unbeaten after routing Lehigh
Venice extended its unbeaten start to 4-0 with a 69-0 rout of Lehigh at Powell-Davis Stadium, the Sun reported. The Indians, ranked No. 2 in the Southwest Florida Power 10 entering the week, have been dominant through four games.
Venice coach John Peacock said after the Indians' double-overtime win over Lakeland on Sept. 4, "To come here and win a game in their stadium is always a huge accomplishment."
Riverview hosts Manatee on Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Next-game schedules for Sarasota, Cardinal Mooney and Venice had not been confirmed as of Thursday night.
